“Prince of Postcards”

The Prince of Postcards paintings are an ongoing series. They are an English take on the huge, industrial scale, quintessentially American "joke" paintings made by Richard Prince.

After work which removed text to change the meaning of an existing object, I chose to reverse the idea, using only the text from saucy seaside postcards — the most stereotypically English joke I could imagine. Without the image, the innuendo is lost, and the message is changed.

Each painting is six by four inches, the dimensions of a British postcard.
